Episcopal Campus Ministry

at the University of California-Irvine

Canterbury Irvine is a welcoming community for all of God’s children, especially those people who live, work, and learn at UCI.

We are a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, and part of the Episcopal Church (Protestant). Although we are an Episcopal Campus Ministry, you do not need to be an Episcopalian to join; you only need a desire to grow in your spiritual life, and a willingness to ask questions.

Canterbury Irvine strives to be a place of openness, thoughtful dialogue, and spiritual growth on the UCI campus.

What We Believe

We believe in God, in whose image we are all made, Jesus, who has reconciled us each to another, and the Holy Spirit, who is the source of love and life.  This three-in-one, “the Holy Trinity,” is always with us.

We believe that we’ve come to know the Holy Trinity through the Bible, the “Living Word of God,” which still speaks to us today; therefore, as we read and study the Bible, we do so with an open mind, much thought & reflection, and with many, many questions.

We believe that as we come together to worship, and to break bread together, we are given the grace to go into the world, to live as God’s holy people.

We believe that you don’t have to believe everything that we do, or the exact same way that we believe it.  The mystery and blessings of God are so vast, there is a multitude of ways that God is working in people’s lives, and so it is improbable that we would all believe exactly the same thing.  However, we do believe that in our differences, there is room for the Holy Spirit to lead us to truth, so even if we disagree, we are called to respectful dialogue and  to live peacefully in community.

We believe that you are always welcome here, and we hope that you will join us.  You’ll be glad that you came, and so will we.
